When It Comes To Traffic, Are You Organic?
Establishing your own E-commerce site is not what it used to be. There are thousands of competitors that are competing for a bigger share of the market. Every method you can find to augment your sales will be beneficial.
Let’s face facts we are in this for the money. Altruism is not the primary motivation to put a website on the Internet to provide information for the world. Albeit there are some that provide information for the sake of providing free information to others. I have just started to provide free information sites on a variety of topics that are near and dear to me, just for the sake of providing information to others. There is no monetary gain. For the most part though the majority of my websites are commercial in nature and are profitable. The majority of sites though are out there to turn a profit. I don’t think that profit is a dirty word either.
Fundamentally website traffic drives our businesses and ultimately determines if we make money or not. Without traffic we have no customers and without customers we have no business. Website traffic is just like pedestrian traffic walking buy a storefront. The more people that walk buy the greater the odds that some of them will come into your store and ultimately buy your products.
To be honest, no one spends the time and money to create a website and maintain just for their own satisfaction.
As the Internet has made the world a smaller place so have the lines of communicating with an international audience been enhanced. You can advertise your products on a worldwide scale and source customers thousands of miles away instantly. It really is the wave of the future of business, in my opinion.
Getting traffic for your website has always been difficult task. Coupled with the vast number of competing websites it becomes even more difficult to generate average traffic. However if you utilize the right tools and tactics you increase your odds substantially and this opens up even more revenue generating possibilities.
Understanding the basics of traffic is important. I classify traffic on a macro basis of only two types: Paid (Pay Per Click, paid classifieds and banner traffic etc.) and Unpaid (Organic search engine traffic, links etc.)
If you are looking for a short term solution to website traffic, you won’t find it in Organic traffic. Most all organic traffic is generated by search engines to your site. Although it’s highly targeted and can be substantial for highly active keywords or keyword phrases it’s time consuming in that it will not happen overnight and it’s really rare if it happens within a week or two. It’s a long term strategy that will pay off over time.
Paid traffic comes in many forms. Pay per click being the most popular today, due to its instant results. Advertising takes on many forms and probably the best and most widely used is banner advertising. There are many that argue that banner advertising is a waste of time and money, as you will either pay for impressions( the number of times the banner is shown) or for clicks (the number of times someone clicks on your banner.)
Honestly, unless you have a good bankroll, don’t jump into advertising as a first method of getting traffic to your site and product.
There is a good argument for using Pay Per Click advertising early on, because it can get results fast. Check your click through rate and conversion rates after a few days don’t wait too long because it will cost you big bucks.
There isn’t any denying that Organic traffic is by far the best kind of traffic for many different reasons. It’s free and effective, targeted and will bring great results. The biggest drawback is it’s time consuming. Getting listed and ranked for specific keywords in Google and the other search engines can take many weeks or months. Utilizing link exchanges is tedious and time consuming. Also there is a limit as to how many reciprocal links are of benefit, too many reciprocal links can hurt your ranking.
At the end of the day you have to decide what you can afford to do and what is the best method for your niche and products.
